Alonzo "The General" Lee
Head Coach

On Jan. 16, 2008, Alonzo Lee was officially announced as the 17th head football coach in North Carolina A&T history. He was given a four year-contract that will reportedly pay him $145,000 annually. Actually, the announcement was one of the worst kept secrets, since Bluedeathvalley.com had already reported that Lee would be the pick more than a week earlier. Lee, who previously served as A&T’s defensive coordinator from 2003-2005 under George Small, has enjoyed a celebrated 25-year career in which he's earned recgonition as one of the greatest defensive minds in black college football. He helped A&T win a MEAC title in 2003 and most recently built a Morgan State defense that finished among the top two in the nation each of the last two seasons. Granted, by the end of his last stint here the Blue Death Defense was far from deadly. However, A&T athletics director Wheeler Brown is confident that Lee’s firery demeanor and blue-collar work ethic is just what this program needs to get back to the glory days. Fans who were understandably frustrated by the search process are now just hoping that Brown made the right choice. A&T football has been down for way too long, so if “General” Lee is indeed the man who can turn things around ... then that's something we all can cheer for.
